The rain earlier in the week again created havoc with sections of the track completely submerged, causing some of the 113 runners to deviate from the track to avoid waterlogged shoes.
Jiordan Wallace-Chapman has been absent from competition for more than a year but streaked home to win the short course in a time of 22:34.
Debutant Harrison Foster claimed second in 23:05 with Chase Sergi 27 seconds back in third.
It was Sergi’s fourth consecutive top five placing and he now sits just two points behind competition leader Emily Adamson who finished in fifth behind Adrian Beard who is now third in the overall standings.
Melissa Sergi was a touch off her best in sixth, in front of Dave Gilbert (14:53) who produced the fastest run of the day.
The Surfer long course extension came into play this week with an additional 1.5 kilometres being added to the 6.2 kilometre distance, along with an extension to runner’s handicaps with some giving up an additional five minutes.
The handicapper was certainly on his game as 70 per cent of the field crossed the line in a spread of just two minutes.
That didn’t include Brendon Sinclair who claimed line honours forty seconds ahead of that group in 53:22.
Sheila Marcus (54:02) continued her recent good form taking out second place narrowly in front of Vince Restagno (54:07).
Restagno cruised at 4:06 per kilometre to return the fastest nett time of 31:37, rescinding his recent injury cloud.
Mirella Granata (54:10) and Peter Stockwell (54:15) were next to return followed by John Keenan in sixth regaining the competition lead in doing so.
Janelle Toole sits four points back in second and Lucia Vernon falls back to third after a forgettable outing.
