Staff at Robertson’s Hot Bread Kitchen noticed the charity tin, which normally sits on the service counter, was missing from its regular spot.
Police were called and officers began an investigation, which included reviewing the bakery’s CCTV footage.
The 27-year-old was identified and attended the Hay police station the following morning, police said.
“The female had disposed of the charity tin and had spent the $95 that was allegedly within the tin,” Acting Inspector Trent Swinton from the Deniliquin Local Area Command said.
Proceeds from the charity collection box is regularly donated to the local branch of Can Assist, which supports regional people in accessing cancer treatment and care.
The woman has been issued a future court attendance notice and will appear before Hay Local Court on August 3.
