On Tuesday she held a drama workshop where kids could come and express themselves, and also brush up on their acting skills.
Ms Parise said that no matter how much acting experience someone had, they could enjoy the class all the same.
“The kids love it because it's like a big toy store in here,” she said.
“It helps them so much confidence wise because some of the kids can be a little introverted, and this allows them to come out of their shell in a safe environment.
“I mean what child doesn't like being creative.”
The class began with introductions and a few different warm-ups led by the kids in the group.
With the energy levels already high, they then moved on to the first activity of the day.
They showed off their dance moves before freezing in place as an animal of their choice.
There were dolphins, monkeys, bears and camels, and as Ms Parise said, it’s all about keeping the kids’ attention.
“We play little character games and the key is, because they're kids, their attention span is very limited, so I have to keep switching between games and activities,” she said.
“We do little group tasks, trust exercises, things to build their confidence, and get them to think quickly on their feet.”
She said that it didn’t matter what the reason was that the kids wanted to come, only that they took something away from it all.
“Some of them come here because they want to play which is great because it's an important part of learning,” she said.
“But saying that, we get a real mixture of reasons that kids come.
“Even if a child is a new student, something as simple as that can change the whole dynamic of the class, which is great because it means that classes are never the same and never get dull.”
She said that Tuesday’s class was good for just that reason.
“A lot of the kids I already know but in the class there were a few new faces,” she said.
“We always find new things to build on.
‘Everything you do is different which is what makes these classes great fun for the kids.”
Ms Parise will be running additional classes on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
