The racquet-slamming, dress code-breaking Kyrgios is never short of confidence.

But it's on the big stage that the bravado kicks into overdrive, admitting the attention brings out the best in him.

"I don't know. Maybe I turn it on a little bit," Kyrgios said of his performances at grand slams.

"I feel as if this is why we play the game. This is why I play, the big, big stages. When there's a chance to do well at grand slams, all that. I really don't know. I think I just turn it on for grand slams."

After accounting for Milos Raonic, the man who ended his dream run at Wimbledon last year, Kyrgios will square off against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who he knocked out in the second round of last year's tournament.

Gasquet surrendered nine match points in last year's defeat at the hands of the then 19-year-old Australian, who believes he can improve on last year's quarter-final appearance and take out the tournament.

"Yeah," Kyrgios said when asked if he could go all the way.

"I think if I play the right style of tennis, obviously if I'm serving well, feeling good out there, I think I can go close. I have a tough task ahead.  Gasquet is playing some really good tennis ... serving is key. He's going to make a lot more returns. He's going to obviously play solid from the ground. He's a magician from back there. I'm going to have to play the same type of tennis. I'm not going to change anything.

"I just know hanging in is key, obviously coming down from two sets to love last year. He's played plenty of Wimbledons. He's good on grass.  He's made semi-finals here, I think. He knows what he has to do out there as well. I'm going to play my game. Whatever happens happens. That's what I did last year as well."

The No.26 seed booked a spot in the final 16 after a four set 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory against Canadian No.7 seed Raonic in typically flamboyant fashion.

The 20-year-old came into the match under enormous scrutiny following his on-court antics in the first two rounds, but he put aside the drama to storm into the next round.

It was a typical Kyrgios performance. Brave, brilliant, bold and bewildering all in one. But between the show-boating, the shouting and the racquet slamming was a performance to savour.

"I like to watch entertaining tennis," Kyrgios said.

"As you say, Dustin Brown, Gaël Monfils, those guys have a lot of fun out there.  At the same time, a guy like Federer, I love watching guys like that as well. They're unbelievable tennis players.

"I'm the biggest believer in [not] saying nothing out there or being a robot. I feel you should express yourself. You know, it's a sport."

While he had the majority of the crowd on his side, there was one particular fan who wasn't impressed by his antics and interaction with those watching on showcourt two.

"I thought she said something like, 'pull your head in or something'," Kyrgios said.

"She started laughing. I thought that's what she said. I didn't really find it funny. It's easy when you're just sitting there and you're just watching, when you've got no experience at all on the court."

While Kyrgios continues to polarise the Australian public, he isn't shying away from the attitude and on-court swagger that has now seen him reach two grand slam quarter-finals and a fourth round showdown with Gasquet at Wimbledon this year.

"I'm focusing, but at the same time I'm having fun," Kyrgios said.

"When I find that balance, I play some really good tennis. I thought I was doing that today in the second, third and fourth. I was chanting to the crowd every now and then, playing with the ballboys. That's a good place to be out there."
