The initiative will see items such as breakfast cereals, coffee and pasta matched with the major supermarket chains.
NSW/ACT IGA state board chairman, Vasilli Karellas said Price Match enabled Griffith customers to shop locally without having to pay more.
“Every week, we compare and match hundreds of everyday products, so you won’t pay more to shop at your local Supa IGA. The prices are matched weekly to the big supermarkets’ everyday shelf price,” Mr Karellas said.
“Price Match will come as welcome news to residents who want to support their independent grocer but have previously found it more expensive to do so. Not only does this initiative provide savings to shoppers’ hip pockets but when you shop independent you also support your local community.
“Money spent (at Ritchies) filters down into the community through IGA Community Chest, a program that raises funds to support local community organisations or charities.”
Two cents from every sale of an IGA signature product is donated to IGA Community Chest. To date, over $75 million has been raised nationwide.
“It really is a win-win situation because by shopping local, customers are also helping us in our commitment to keep supporting and building independent Australian brands and suppliers,” Mr Karellas said.
