THE Griffith Swans under 17s have continued their march through the Riverina Football League finals series, after thumping Mangoplah Cookardinia United Eastlakes by 66 points at Narrandera Sportsground on Saturday.
After an impressive win against Turvey Park last weekend, Griffith looked to catch the Goannas on the hop, with the inclusion of several key players from the last time they played.
Before the game however, Swans co-coach Matt Noonan said Mangoplah would be ready for their stars.
"The beauty of us being so far away from the Wagga side is that they don't have a huge knowledge about us apart from the couple of games they have played against us," Noonan said.
"But in saying that we knew what was coming at us from them."
In a tight opening quarter, Griffith and Mangoplah could not be separated, with both side's scoring 3.1 to go into the first break locked up.
But that would be as close as the Goannas would get, as Griffith blew their opponents away in the second term, kicking seven goals to open up a commanding 32-point lead at the break.
The magnitude of the sudden-death game began to dawn on the sides with plenty of contested possessions, as the scoring rate slowed significantly.
Despite this, Griffith had done enough to take a comfortable 46-point lead into the final period, but the Swans again exploded out of the blocks, thoroughly dominating to kick another five majors to finish off the rout.
Nick Witherspoon again proved dangerous up forward for Griffith, kicking four for the day, while Tom Shannon and Henry Delves also gave the Mangoplah defence nightmares, kicking three each.
The side lived up to its unselfish mantra in front of goal, with a further seven players, including Alex Blissett, Drew Cassidy, Brad Moore, Jordon Burley, Joel Gordon, Daniel Peruzzi and Thomas West, all getting their names on the scorer's sheet.
John Evans, Lachlan Evans, Thomas West, Jordon Burley, Joel Gordon and Alex Blissett all showed excellent form and will need to lift again as Griffith takes on Leeton-Whitton at Narrandera this weekend in the preliminary final.
