Dave Alpen showed he hadn’t lost any of his fitness and speed by taking first in the long course. Renae Savage put in a great effort to come second, and new feral Reid Burley was third, just in front of the much-improved Lyn Evans.
Speed machine Aiden Fattore was fifth and the fastest male with a time of 24 mins. He holds the quickest time of the series so far.
Darren Pooley continued his improvement to take sixth. Anna Gesuale was seventh and Tracey Josling eighth after recording the fastest female time of 29 mins and 42 sec. Tony Rockov and Moreno Chiapin completed the top 10.
Newcomer Christian Callcut was first in the short course and was followed by Jackson Hassan, who continues to set new benchmarks.
He posted another record time of 15 mins and 50 sec and bettered his rival Aidan Peruzzi by 31 seconds. Watch out for more amazing efforts from these two.
Long course refugee Elio Minato tried his luck in the short course and pulled off third. Weekend visitor Jessica Alpen was fourth and the fastest female with 17 mins and 18 sec.
Sarah Quarisa was fifth and Adrian Baird, who flew up Dom’s Dilemma, was sixth. Hamish Gunn, Aidan Peruzzi, Mason Salvestro and Lachlan O’Grady completed the top 10.
With three races left in the winter competition, Jamie Ross leads the long course standings on 179 points. His nearest rivals are Keith Riley (125) and Moreno Chiapin (117).
The short course competition is closer, with Mason Salvestro leading on 193 from Jackson Hassan (173) and Hamish Gunn (143).
It will be interesting to see how the competition evolves in the next few weeks as runners crank it up for a final tilt at victory. The handicapper could be in for a busy time.
The joggers meet at Scenic Hill every Saturday at the water tower opposite Pioneer Park at 4.30pm. Please arrive early to register. For more comprehensive results and news, visit www.griffithferals.org.au
