Mr Cirillo said he would generally only hold one class a year after numbers had slowly declined over the past few years.
He said that the renewed demand for self-defence comes on the back of recent attacks on women being shown in the news.
“The last two (classes) I’ve have been packed out because it’s real, violence and all this type of crime,” Mr Cirillo said.
“It doesn't discriminate, it can happen to anyone at any time.
“I’ve done this for 10 to 12 years and over the last few years the numbers have dropped.
“People just don't think it will happen to them.
“All of a sudden something happens so close to home and it really resonated with a lot of people.”
The class focuses on putting the students into a positions that they may find themselves in.
“A lot of the stuff is scenario based,” Mr Cirillo said.
“Scenarios that come up day to day, going on early walks or going to the carpark on the way home from work.
“When people are tired, that’s when they’re least alert.”
Mr Cirillo said that the plan is for women to never have to use the physical training they receive.
A large portion of the class is revolved around being aware of your surroundings.
“Self-defence in general is really important, for guys and girls,” Mr Cirillo said.
“I tell everyone if it gets to the physical part, there’s a lot of things that they’ve missed, a lot of signs and senses.
“They (students) tell me they get more out of that part because it’s a lot of stuff they didn’t expect.”
For more than 10 years, Mr Cirillo has refined his self-defence classes.
“This class has been distilled from many years of training,” he said.
“When I started there used to be 10 week courses, it’s now down to 3 and a half hour classes
“It’s effective, straight to the point techniques and moves. They’re based on reflexes and easy to remember.”
The upcoming class is almost full but Mr Cirillo said if the demand was there he would continue the workshops.
