The call came after Carevan co-ordinator Michelle Bordignon noticed last year how many of the users of Carevan didn’t have warm clothes in the dead of winter.

She has already received jackets and blankets from members of the community.

“It was really cold last year and it’s already freezing cold now,” Ms Bordignon said.

“I thought I would put it on Facebook now and get it out there.

“Last year we had a couple of the Uniting Church ladies from Sydney send us down a box of scarves and beanies.

“We were able to give them out to keep everyone warm and I thought I'd start a little earlier this year and be prepared.

“When it's a really bitter night we can just hand out a few jackets.”

The Carevan continues to provide an essential service to less fortunate people around town.

Integral to the service is funding that they receive via fundraisers and community support.

“We just had that successful fundraiser at the Coro Club,” Ms Bordignon said.

“We've just had the Yenda Rotary Club donate a cheque to pay for all our rego for our car and the caravan and the insurance.”

One thing the Carevan currently needs more of is volunteers and drivers.

Drivers especially who are able to manoeuvre the caravan while it’s hooked up to the car.

The Carevan currently receives incredible support from local businesses and the community but is always looking for more help in any way possible.

“Baiada have come on board and donated a cheque for $1400,” Ms Bordignon said.

“They also donate chicken every month.

“We have been with Vaccari’s since day one who give us bread for the night and now Baker’s Delight are on board.

“Most families are able to take a loaf of bread home.”
