Peter Budd enjoyed the perfect start to the three-day event by earning gold in the masters six road race after winning a thrilling sprint finish at Scenic Hill.
Also taking home a medal in the men’s road race was Mal Blake, who finished second in the masters one category.
Griffith’s other top-three results on Saturday came in the women’s events.
Bronwyn Jones surprised herself by winning bronze in the masters three division, while Jo Polkinghorne matched the effort with a sensational ride in the masters five.
Sunday saw riders head to Benerembah Street for a criterium, the event taking place near Griffith City Council chambers.
Leanne Kennedy was the lone medal winner from Griffith. After narrowly missing the podium in the road race, Kennedy showed her class to claim second in the masters four division.
Clear skies greeted the more than 300 riders who competed on the first two days of the championships, and organisers will be hoping for similar weather when the titles close on Monday with a time trial.
Like the course for Saturday’s road race, the time trial route will take in Scenic Hill.
This is the second time Griffith has hosted the championships and it appears the city has once again made a positive impression on visiting riders.
Cyclists are competing for $12,000 in prizemoney and $8000 in entry prizes.
