The team was invited to play as a result of winning the local round of the McTaggart Cup and progressed to the next stage of the competition in Wagga.
The team played two rounds, a semi-final and then the grand final.
Michael Asomua, the team captain, who was also awarded the player of the grand final, was proud of the effort shown.
“We played hard, not for us, but so the whole school would be proud,” he said.
Team coach, Ray Schaefer, was delighted with Michael’s performance
“Michael is a strong, passionate player who led from the front throughout the competition,” he said.
Michael, along with team member Reuben Leao-Seve Simpson, have been selected to represent the Riverina at PSSA State trials in Touch Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union.
Chanel Asomua is also a member of the PSSA Riverina rugby Union team.
Team manager, Angela Catanzariti, can see big things ahead for the players.
“There are many talented boys in the team, some of whom I expect to see on the big screen in the not too distant future,” she said.
Principal Jude Hayman has been overwhelmed by the support the local community has showed by assisting the school in ensuring the trip to Canberra is affordable for the students’ families.
“They are a great group of boys and this is an opportunity for them to see what their futures could hold if they continue to work hard and apply themselves,” she said.
“Not everyone can be a footballer but hopefully they can be inspired by all the other aspects as well.”
The team consists of Joshua Low, Chanel Asomua, Reuben Leao-Seve Simpson, Michael Asomua, Jake Rand, Pati Auvae, Peter Williams-Mariner, Omega Liu, Wotoa Toru, Tanielu Isaia and Dennis Kelly.
