On Thursday evening the school showed the movie Gallipoli for interested students and families and on Friday morning the College held a very moving Dawn service with around 60 students, families and staff attending.
This was followed at 10am with an interschool ANZAC Day Service in front of the lone pine tree where they had installed ANZAC commemorative bollards displaying the words: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.
The pine tree growing at Marian College had been propagated from original seedlings from trees at Lone Pine Ridge and is now a healthy 8 year old specimen.
Special guests included members of the Griffith Ex-Servicemen’s association and members of the family of Alan Sara where a plaque was unveiled in honour of Alan’s work for the organisation.
Alan Sara was also the business manager for the school for 20 years.
The ceremony was organised by HSIE co-ordinator Clare Thorpe.
Lucia Dickie and her class made hundreds of poppies for the occasion that were placed around the bollards.
Over 130 students and staff attended the Griffith Anzac Day service at Memorial Park.
