Gerry Cox defeated Bob Trembath on the 19th in a nailbiter and progressed to the quarters, where he’ll play Chris Scobie, who accounted for Andrew McLean 4-3.
Steve Stringer defeated David Sinclair and will play Tom Morgan, who ousted Tony Catanzariti 4-2.
Andrew Cozens, following his 2-1 win over Barry Stapleton, will play Jack Draskovic, who had a w/o over Roy Catanzariti.
Alf Franchi defeated Don Hillam 2-1 and now faces Sid Knox, who defeated Lance Perry 4-3.
Round two is to be completed by Sunday, May 24.
The veterans played their single stableford at Griffith Golf Club last Thursday and had 38 players in two grades.
The 0-18 grade players continue to struggle.
Jim Dickie (33 points) won the club bar voucher just ahead of Roy Calabria (32 points).
There were better scores in the 19-36 grade.
Bob Painting (37 points) took home the bar voucher from Reg Gilbert (36 points).
Nearest the pins were Roy Calabria (4th), Bill Lambert (7th), Jim Dickie (15th) and Skeet Milne (16th).
Vouchers cut off at 31 points on a countback.
The event tomorrow is a single stableford.
The following week, May 14, is the second round of the Cudmore-Williams Trophy against Leeton.
It will be played at 10am with a shotgun start in a single stableford.
Last Wednesday’s pro comp was a single stableford with 32 players in two grades.
Wayne Henderson (38 points) won the 0-18 grade. He scored 20 points out and 18 home, canning a birdie on the 15th.
David Woodside (37 points) was the runner-up. He had 20 points out before slipping to 17 home and nailed a birdie on the 15th. Misses on the 12th and 13th proved costly.
Derek Langford (38 points) won the 19-36 grade. He carded a four-point par on the sixth in scoring 19 points on each nine.
Ngarau Noa (35 points) was second and had a four-point par on the 12th.
Vouchers went to 32 points on a countback.
