Golfers are like the mail – rain, hail or shine, they must go through. Forty-five of them defied the elements and played in Saturday’s incessant rain at Griffith Golf Club.

The event was supposed to be a Greenkeeper’s Revenge single stableford sponsored by Midwest Belting and Conveyors, but because of the weather, the event has been postponed to a date in May.
Neil Mahaffey (34 points) was the best mud runner in A grade. He scored 19 points out and a soggy 14 home with 10 pars. Runner-up Keiron Edwards (31 points), carded six pars. Brian Grandi (37 points) won B grade. He nailed a birdie on the second to score 18 points out then parred three back-nine holes to add 19 points in.
Runner-up Robert Gill (35 points) only had 14 points out, but aided by a four-point birdie on the 11th, overcame the wet to score 21 points in.
John Harrison provided a clinic on how to play in the wet. Playing off 21, he fired 80 off the stick for 47 points. He drained a birdie on the second and added a four-point par on the fourth to card 25 points out. He then went in a four-wheel-drive on the back nine to add 22 points. A remarkable effort.
Joshua Davies (37 points) was 10 points behind in second. He improved on his 16-point front nine to add 21 home, nailing a four-point par on the 12th.
Pro pins went to Peter Jones and Jason Magoci. Par threes went to Tim Rice (4th), Nathan Campbell (7th), Col Leeson (11th) and Joel Webster (16th). Vouchers to 25 points on a countback.
A cold snap and strong winds greeted the 39 players who contested last Sunday’s single stableford.
Jake Harrison (38 points) carded the day’s best score to win A grade. He nailed a four-point birdie on the second to score 19 points out then added 19 points in.
Runner-up Alf Franchi (35 points) recovered from a dirty day of 15 points out to add 20 home with nine pars.
Mitchell Howard (36 points) was B grade’s best. He shot 16 out and 20 in with four pars to finish ahead of runner-up Grant Turner (36 points) on a countback.
Frank Calabria (37 points) was the C grade winner with splits of 20-17, carding four three-pointers. Runner-up Frank Sergi (35 points) had 17 out and 18 home with three pars. He beat Josh Davies on a countback.
Ryan Harrison won the seventh pin, and Joshua Davies the 11th. Vouchers to 32 points on a countback.
Rod McNabb Caltex Matchplay players must have first round matches completed by Sunday, April 26. Today’s and Saturday’s events are single stablefords. Sunday is the qualifier for the Keno Mixed 4BBB, with the district final on May 31 at Jerilderie. There will be a single stableford in conjunction.
