Hosting the Leeton Greens at Ron Crowe Oval, West Wyalong went into the break in front by 20 points before finishing the match 56-4 winners.
The teams played the entire match in the rain, which ensured the clash was a scrappy one.
Usaia O’Sullivan, Chris Mayberry and Sam Kerry all scored doubles for the home side, while Dan Wallace racked up a 20-point haul.
Winger Matt Arnold was the lone try-scorer for the Greens.
West Wyalong coach Rohan Loudon wasn’t happy with the amount of penalties awarded during the match but still took plenty of positives from the game.
“There was a heap (of penalties). The penalty count was atrocious,” Loudon said.
“It was raining all day. It wasn't much to watch. There was a lot of dropped ball, a lot of scrums.
“We sort of had a new halves combination and they went well.
“Young Braden Gillies played well off the bench coming on at hooker.
“The effort was good, but the rain let everyone down.
“It was a fairly sloppy game of football.”
Loudon said the scoreboard was not reflective of the game.
While West Wyalong capitalised on their chances, Leeton were able to do the hard yards but couldn’t convert that work into points.
“The game was pretty much set for set,” Loudon said.
“We got the odd break whereas they were getting half breaks, but their play broke down.
“I don't think the score was an indication of the match.”
The West Wyalong line-up consisted of several new players and new combinations.
Despite the error-riddled performance, Loudon was happy with his team’s performance.
He said there were plenty of noteworthy contributions.
“The whole team were pretty good,” Loudon said.
“Our back-rowers Craig Iverach and Sam Kerry went well.
“Aaron Duncan was good up front. Our new bloke Usaia O’Sullivan played well, and BJ Kerry did a good job at the back.”
