SOME celebrated with breakfast in bed, others made do with a new pair of socks, but Eddie Carusi's Father's Day gift trumped them all.
Benito Sam Carusi was born just after 8am on Sunday at Griffith Base Hospital, weighing in at 6 pound, 3 ounces. As presents go Mr Carusi said nothing would ever compare to his tiny bundle of joy.
With wife Alison's due date not for another few weeks the safe arrival came as a pleasant surprise for the proud parents, who also have a one-year-old daughter Havana.
"I never thought I'd be spending Father's Day at the hospital holding my new son," Mr Carusi said.
"It feels pretty good. You just couldn't get any better. He is doing well even though he wasn't due until September 24.
"We've got one of each now, which is nice."
Mr Carusi said they had chosen Sam for his son's middle name after his own father, who he credits as being a wonderful role model.
"I was only 11 when he died, but he taught me a lot," he said. "Growing up on the farm we went pig hunting, tractor driving and all of the typical stuff."
"I think he would have been pretty proud to see his grandson."
Benito was the only baby born on Father's Day this year at Griffith Base Hospital.
