Griffith Counselling Service NSW counsellors Lorraine Sutton and Donna Piromalli urged people affected by the alleged murder of the Leeton school teacher to seek help.

"People need to contact a professional counsellor to support them through their grief because it has been such a shock to the community and to everybody," Ms Sutton said.

"People are being affected in different ways, even people who are getting married are being affected. It's a horrific thing that people don't expect to happen in their community."

Ms Sutton said people should not try and cope on their own.

"If something has been triggered inside you, you need to seek help, we can't take ourself through our own pain."

Ms Sutton said teachers, in particular, may experience raw emotions spending time at school after hours.

Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi said he could not comprehend what had happened.

"You have to wonder what society is coming to and what does the future hold for my granddaughters growing up. It's absolutely mind-boggling and baffling," he said.

Griffith Local Area commander Superintendent Michael Rowan condemned violence against women, but urged people not to react with fear.

“(When it comes to violence) we need to get people to stand up and say enough is enough,” he said.

“It is not acceptable and there is no occasion when violence is acceptable.”

Superintendent Rowan urged women to continue to go about their normal business, saying strength was power.

A bunch of flowers, yellow ribbon and a yellow lantern have been left at Cocoparra National Park, where the burnt remains of what is believed to be Miss Scott were found about 5pm on Friday night. Miss Scott, 26, was reported missing on Easter Monday.

Vincent Stanford, 24, has been charged with murder.
