All three of Hanwood FC’s goals came from penalty kicks in a game that included six yellow cards and one red.
Yoogali FC are known as a physical team and played no different on Sunday.
Hanwood FC co-coach Brian Bertolin said his side matched the reigning champions in physicality.
“That's their style and you've got to go with it or you're going to get run over the top of,” he said.
“It wasn't anything too out of hand, but it’s always a physical game when you play them.”
Bertolin said there were plenty of positives to come from the match.
“We were pretty happy about our build-up play,” he said. “We've still got a lot of stuff to work on. We are still a little bit rusty.
“It's the same old thing for every team this time of year. We're just trying to get our combinations right, trying to find the best fit and the best 11.”
Bertolin said there were a couple of standout performances.
“Our left back, Cameron McWhirter, he was on debut today, he was outstanding,” he said. “Blake Potts on the other side was also very good and obviously Kyle Greaves was excellent up front. He got the three goals.
“They were excellent finishes against a quality keeper – one of the best keepers in NSW.”
Hanwood FC had a mountain of ball early but were unable to convert.
They peppered the goal from free kicks and open play but most shots were off target or saved by goalie Jone Ralulu.
Momentum started to swing Yoogali FC’s way as they started getting more possession.
The Yellow Tails won several corners, but like Hanwood were unable to get the ball in the back of the net.
Their closest chance came when Javier Sergi took a long-range free kick and Hanwood FC keeper Glen Armanini slightly misread the flight of the ball and had to tip it over the bar.
Shortly after Hanwood FC captain Jason Bertacco was taken down in the box and Kyle Greaves slotted home the penalty.
The second half started with renewed intensity which lasted the rest of the game.
Hanwood FC gained a second penalty kick when Sitiveni Watkins was ruled to have put a hand on the ball.
Greaves slotted his second to put Hanwood FC up 2-0.
Late in the piece Yoogali FC’s Joshua Bagiante was given a second yellow card, but the game was all but over. The third penalty came from another handball, which gave Greaves his hat-trick near the siren.
As well as maximum points, the win gave Hanwood FC the Musitano Cup, which they play for against Yoogali FC every season.
