The National Party member received 54.9 per cent of the first preference votes and 74.8 per cent after preferences after 47 of 50 voting booths had been counted.
Country Labor Party candidate Max Buljubasic received 16.6 per cent of the first preference votes and 25.2 per cent after preferences were counted.
Independent candidate Helen Dalton received 18.8 per cent of the first preference votes.
Mr Piccoli said he was very pleased with the result.
“There was a slight swing there (to Labor), around 5 per cent, which we saw was about 8 per cent across the state.
“I'm confident we are the right team for the job and I’m happy to be the Member for Murray.”
Mr Piccoli said he would be focusing on “getting rid of some of the negativity that’s around" in Griffith.
“Some of that has to do with the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, but it’s also about confidence in the city. There's actually a lot of really great things happening in and around Griffith.”
Mr Piccoli said he wanted to make it clear that it wasn't all “doom and gloom”.
He said he had spoken to Member for Riverina Michael McCormack on a number of occasions about the Basin Plan and what could be done at a federal level.
“I think we need to draw a line under it now,” Mr Piccoli said.
“The buyback cap will certainly help.
“There’s a lot of work to be done in the next four years and I’m committed to it.
“I’ve had a big electorate for some time, which does mean a lot of hours in the car and that won't change.”
Mr Piccoli said he was committed to the electorate and looked forward to representing the people living and working in it.
He said there were discussions being held about whether he would remain the state's education minister.
“There’s discussions being had at this minute, but I won’t go into it any further,” Mr Piccoli said.
“Obviously being in cabinet is great and I’ve loved being the Minister for Education.”
Mr Piccoli said he received a lot of positive feedback on election day.
