YSC won the pre-season nine-a-side competition two weeks ago, but coach Anthony Martinello said the games weren’t much of an indicator of where his team sat.
“It’s a different format altogether, so it’s hard to judge how we are looking for the season,” Martinello said.
“In saying that, the boys did well. They were focused and at the end of the day you always play to win.
“There’s always room for improvement, but I think we are going okay.”
Griffith City missed the finals in 2014 but have made signings, including players from the folded Hanwood Juniors, to strengthen their squad. Martinello said he had more than enough on his plate without worrying about what sort of team Griffith City would field.
“I glimpsed their games at the Real Juice Cup and I know they weren’t at full strength,” he said.
“We just need to focus on our own game. The whole competition will show their cards this weekend.”
YSC will be without Ryan Spencer due to injury and several other players will be assessed at training to see if they are fit to take to the field.
Kick-off is at 3pm.
