Shannon Wells, managing director of Par Avion and Airlines Tasmania, made the announcement to mark the one year anniversary of the Griffith to Melbourne (Essendon) service.
“As we pass the 12 month mark we are happy to say we are encouraged by the growing numbers of passengers on our flights as it appears our brand and presence is becoming more well known in Griffith and surrounding areas,” Mr Wells said.
“We continually assess our operations to see if flight frequency and times are meeting the travel needs of local residents and based on that information, I am pleased to announce we will be commencing a Sunday evening flight mid-April with a promotional fair of just $111 for a limited time to celebrate our one year anniversary.”
Par Avion offers morning and afternoon flights from Griffith to Essendon and back on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi said it was great news for the city.
“It means that the company is satisfied the numbers are good and that’s given us encouragement that its going to be here for the long-term,” Councillor Dal Broi said.
“Myself and senior staff are recommending that we give them another 12 months of free landing charges to get the company established so that after another 12 months we won’t be talking about whether they will be here for 12 or 18 months we will be talking about years.”
Cr Dal Broi said the Griffith to Essendon air service was an important route that Par Avion was able to offer the city. “We hope local residents will help the airline grow and succeed by considering flying instead of driving for their next trip to Melbourne,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“We have reached a very important milestone and are celebrating a very successful 12 months with Par Avion.
“I look forward to clear skies and many flights in the future and welcome this announcement.”
Par Avion began operating the Griffith to Essendon serrvice on March 17 following CASA’s inspection and formal approval. Par Avion operates its flights with its Cessna Titan 10 seat twin engine aircraft.
