By the end of Sunday the final tally of money raised was just over $18,000, $3000 more than what last year’s event raised.
Organiser and member of the Darlington Point Apex Club Chris Sutton was happy with how the weekend went and puts the success down to more experience.
“It’s only in its second year but it has already proven to be a huge success,” he said.
“I’d say it was probably a bit better than last year, just because we’re getting better at it with experience and the fact that there were more people in attendance this year than last helps as well.”
It is an event designed to cater as a complete family event weekend as it featured helicopter joy flights, amusement rides and games, jumping castles and riverside market stalls among other things.
The competition side isn’t just for the adults either, with kids as young as eight getting out there and having a go.
“I’d say the highlight of the weekend was this little young fella, who would have ony been about eight or nine, that not only won but he caught the biggest cod on the day, he ended up taking home more prizes than he could carry,” Mr Sutton said.
“Overall there were about 500 entrants and many more were just there to support the cause and enjoy the other activities, it was fantastic a competition all round I’d say.
“Every single kid ended up going away with a prize which is great because the competition is aimed at families.”
In total there was more than $50,000 worth of prizes given out over the two day event which was an increase of around $5000 from last year’s event.
The major prizes that were given out as part if the raffle draw included a complete stacer 399 proline angler boat with 2 stroke 30 hp Mercury motor and trailer package, a 150cm large screen TV and a platinum 40 litre fridge package.
This made it one of the largest prize pools offered for inland fishing competitions in New South Wales.
The event was made possible by the hard work and dedication of volunteers who organised it.
