Australia's richest person, Gina Rinehart, is suing Nine Entertainment for defamation, claiming the television network knowingly aired 20 "glaring errors" in its drama depicting her and her family, House of Hancock.

But a statement from Mrs Rinehart's solitictor has picked many holes in the Nine's depiction of the family, saying they were false, misleading, or simply didn't happen.

From that statement, here are nine scenes that Mrs Rinehart said Nine got wrong:

Mrs Rinehart having a conversation with her deceased father Lang Hancock. Mrs Rinehart's solicitor, Mark Wilks, says this is "offensive, given it didn't occur and may question sanity".

Lang Hancock's legal advisor, Alan Camp, informing Mrs Rinehart at her mother's grave that Mr Hancock had changed his will. Mr Wilks says no such scene ever took place. "Mrs Rinehart was living with her children in the US around the time Mr Hancock changed his will and did not return to Australia until shortly before Christmas 1991".

Suggestions throughout the series that Mrs Rinehart "conspired" or "worked with" Alan Camp to prepare a deed to circumvent Mr Hancock's last will and testament. Mr Wilks said this was false. The deed was executed on March 20, 1992, seven days before Mr Hancock's death. In the weeks prior to the execution of the deed, Mr Wilks said Mr Hancock gave instructions to lawyer Martin Bennett to change his will so his "former housekeeper" Rose Porteous, who Mr Hancock married in 1985, "was effectively to receive only some housekeeping money".

In relation to the suggestion that Lang Hancock take out a violence-restraining order against Mrs Porteous, it was Alan Camp who advised Mr Hancock he could do so, given the stress he had received, Mr Wilks said. "Mr Hancock gave sworn evidence at that restraining order hearing which was provided to Channel Nine".

He said the following scene depicting a confrontation between Mrs Rinehart and Mrs Porteous was "erroneous and mischievous". "As Channel Nine are aware, from their records, after Mr Hancock decided to engage Mrs Porteous as his housekeeper after a trial period, Mrs Rinehart scarcely saw her and almost never spoke to her, so the confrontation scenes are false".

Mrs Rinehart confronting Mr Hancock while he was in hospital. Mr Wilks said this "is entirely untrue and false". "The suggestion that such a scene ever occurred is grossly offensive to Mrs Rinehart. Mrs Rinehart loved her father genuinely and would not behave in a way that would distress him while he was in hospital".

Mr Hancock having a conversation with his aide Reg Browne during which he says words to the effect that "I'll look after you for the rest of your life". Mr Wilks said Mr Hancock recorded that Reg Browne should receive two payments, both of which were paid. "The suggestion that no payments were made to Reg Browne by either Mrs Rinehart or Hancock Prospecting Pty Limited is erroneous and mischievous".

Mrs Rinehart sending her son John Hancock (who changed his surname from Rinehart to Hancock by deed poll) to the Philippines to work with private investigator and former Perth police investigator Colin Pace. Mr Wilks said Mrs Rinehart never asked or instructed her son to go to the Philippines. "Mrs Rinehart has never met Colin Pace, not even by phone, and to suggest otherwise in any scene is false," Mr Wilks said.

John Hancock is shown to have had a conversation with Mrs Rinehart to the effect that Hancock Prospecting should not have expended resources on pursuing the inquest into Lang Hancock's death. "We are instructed that no such conversation took place and that John Hancock never expressed these views to Mrs Rinehart," Mr Wilks said. "Indeed, John Hancock (then Rinehart) wrote a letter requesting the inquest."
