Bertacco made 31 with the bat to help Hanwood post 132 before taking 2-5 to have Yenda at 5-41 at the end of the day’s play.
Hanwood was looking a little haphazard when it was reduced to 6-41 thanks to a wonderful bowling display by Dean Cunial (6-24) before Brendan Hicken (46) and captain Dean Catanziriti (21) steadied the ship.
Yenda wasn’t able to get through a tricky session near the close of play, losing five wickets heading into the second day of the clash.
Catanziriti said he was confident his team could snare first innings points.
“We were 6-40 at one point but managed to turn it around and put 132 on the board,” Catanzariti said.
“The pitch was playing up a little bit, but Jason Bertacco batted well at the top and Brendan Hicken did a good job at the end.”
Catanzariti said the Yenda batsmen would be feeling the pressure when they resumed.
“I think we can take this one out,” he said.
“That 90 runs they need to get, it’s not an easy 90 to make with the outfield.
“It’s really slow and I think we’ll be right and get the last few wickets next weekend.”
