Oram, who is director of the acclaimed Sydney Jazz Orchestra, will join Metro’s Mechlene Nehm Metro’s Mechlene Nehme (vocalist), Lachlan Pendlebury (trumpet and percussions), Livio Mazzon (drummer), Neil Mahaffey (guitarist), and Bernard Gray (bass player).
In addition to playing soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, Tim has mastered the piccolo, clarinet and flute, making him in demand in the music industry for performances such as live large and small ensembles, recording sessions, stage shows and TV.
His trademark is to uniquely blend pop/rock culture with big band jazz in his writing and arrangements to produce accessible music.
For more than 25 years, Tim has worked as a performer and arranger with some of the world's great artists, including Aussie bands Powderfinger and Silverchair along with Natalie Cole, Bobby Shew, Bob Mintzer, Buddy Greco, Ian Moss, Doug Parkinson, Maria Schneider and Queen.
Tim also has more than 30 musicals to his credit, such as West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Rocky Horror Show, Saturday Night Fever, Miss Saigon, Grease, Priscilla Queen of the Desert (both in Australia and the West End) and Annie. While live performances are part of Tim’s persona, his passion for writing and arranging puts him on another level in the music industry.
"I enjoy the process of writing a chart so that it's eternal and if it's good, people will still want to play it long after it's written," Tim said.
“I'm happy to write what people want to hear with arrangements that retain the quality and integrity of the original piece.”
Securing musicians of Tim’s calibre is a coup for First Friday Live, the Griffith not-for-profit community organised event.
“It’s a thrill to land a musician like Tim as a guest of First Friday Live as he is not only talented and in demand around the world but incredibly passionate about music and dedicated to his craft,” Livio Mazzon, founder of First Friday Live, said.
First Friday Live featuring Tim Oram will be held at Bar One88 and will start at 7.30pm Friday night.
Tickets are $15 and are available at the door.
