The funds have come from an investment in Carathool that the Rotary Club of Griffith had donated to them. 

Rotary Club President Ang Maloni was more than happy to hand the cheque over.

“Looking over other issues over the last couple of years, the private hospital was one important issue that was going to come to Griffith, Mr Maloni said.

“The community will benefit from this private hospital in the long term given the way that it’s going to be promoted, that was one of the main reasons we got involved.”

Mayor John Dal Broi was on hand to accept the cheque for $100,000 from the Rotary club of Griffith.

“The million dollars that we committed to raise as a community was always meant to go towards the construction of the hospital so this $100,000 will go towards that,” Councillor Dal Broi said.

“We now have raised $1,045,000. We’ve got more funds coming in shortly with the fun run. We’ll be well over the mark of what we said we’d raise.”

Cr Dal Broi said that all extra funds raised will go towards any extra construction costs of the hospital that come up and tenderers will be announced in the next month.

“The successful tender will be announced at the end of February and then on the first of March we will have a soil turning ceremony.

“We have people from St Vincent’s Sydney coming down, we will have a bit of a function on site.

“The fun run will happen in the morning and the soil turning will happen in the afternoon.

“They’ll (tenders) be called in the first week of February, I think. So that they can be assessed by the project team. They'll make recommendations to St Vincent’s and City Council, as to the successful tenderer.

Bendigo Bank Branch Manager Tamie Haley said she was glad to be involved.

“Bendigo Bank is a proud partner of Griffith Rotary Club, with both groups having aligned values,” she said.

“I feel honoured to be involved in this special moment. Griffith is very lucky to be receive their own private hospital.”
