Ms Bordignon was named Citizen of the Year for her work with Meals on Wheels and Griffith Carevan. 

The Griffith Carevan co-ordinator said it was nice to be recognised for her efforts, taking the chance to bring more awareness to the two extremely important organisations she is involved in.

“I was not expecting to win. I'm excited, deeply honoured. I've been working very hard for the last 10 months.

“I've got two jobs, Meals on Wheels and one with Carevan. I do do a lot of after hours work and I've been going to the Carevan just about every Wednesday night,” she said.

“There are a lot of people out there doing it tough and it makes you feel good to be able to help other people.”

Meals on Wheels deliver hot and frozen meals to people who aren’t able to purchase it themselves and Griffith Carevan provides meals to people in need.

“They're both so needed,” Ms Bordignon said.

“We've just spiralled in 10 months. The Carevan started March 12 last year. We thought we'd have 20 to 30 people but we actually had 80. There's still a lot of people that need help and and just a good nourishing heahlty meal, that's what it's about.

“I'd especially like to thank both my committees they are both behind me in a big way. I'd like to thank the Griffith community, they help me out so much. 

“I only have to put on Facebook that I need help and I've got people who want to give me vegetables.

“We are very blessed in this town, there's a lot of kind people living in Griffith.

“I'm up against some wonderful nominees, they're all there for being kind and helping people in their own way. It's very humbling to be up against people like that.”
