Sureway Employment and Training area manager Sturt, Craig Tilston, said the aim of the project was to help build skills and confidence to help the participants transition into the workforce.
"They worked on this garden together," he said.
"There were five of them in Griffith and they had to plan it, cost it and then plant it.
"In years to come they can take pride in seeing it flourish.
"The simple, low maintenance garden at the Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre, is the result of six months work.
"This is the first time we've ever done this, it's a pilot for us," Mr Tilston said.
"I can only say good things about the staff at the pool, they allowed them to come in and work on this project.
"It shows what can be done when you work together."
Last Wednesday the group held a celebration to mark the end of the project.
Mary Smith was one of the participants.
"I enjoyed it. We got to make our own garden," she said.
"I found the social interaction valuable. I made a lot of friends.
"I've always loved plants and I learned a lot."
