Emergency services were called to the Murrumbidgee Estate home just before 9pm where they found a man and a woman with wounds on their legs.

It's believe a 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old female were injured after being shot at. They both received treatment at Griffith Base Hospital.

A crime scene was established at the home, but the residents refused to talk to the Area News.

A neighbour in said "sometime between 8.30pm and 9.30pm" he heard what sounded like gun shots.

"It's hard to tell what it was," the man said. "It kind of sounded a bit like fireworks going off. But my dog didn't pick up on it."

The man, who has been living in the street for eight years, said he has never had any troubles with his neighbours before.

"The kids run amok sometimes, but that's just what kids do," he said.

Another neighbour said while she did not hear the shots, she found a .22 calibre shell in front of her house on Wednesday morning.

"I went outside and saw something shiny on the bitumen," the elderly woman said.

"And I'm off the farm, I know what a rifle shell looks like. It was a spent shell."

The Hopbush resident said police marked the spot where the shell was found with yellow spray paint.

She said her neighbourhood was usually "pretty quiet" but police cars at her neighbours' house were "not unusual". 

"We do have a good relationship. We wave to each other. But they do have their little fracases."

A woman, who lives further down the road, said she was shocked about the shooting.

"It's so close to home, isn't it," she said.

"It's terrible, it's such a good neighbourhood."

And another neighbour said while was still feeling safe he was worried about the events.

"It's a bit of a shock," he said. "I don't like it when they fire projectiles down in our street."

The man, who has lived in the area for a decade, said there were "always different people coming and going" at the house, but he has never had any hassles with the residents.

"The do have a few troubles, but usually they keep to themselves," he said.

The neighbour said a police car was parked in front of the house all night and investigators and forensics didn't leave until 11am on Wednesday.

"It takes up so many resources and so much time," he said. "I hope whoever did it doesn't just get a slap on the wrist by our court system."

Detectives are continuing their inquiries in an attempt to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
