AN 89-RUN stand for the ninth wicket propelled Exies into a commanding position in their Griffith District Cricket Association two-day clash against the Yenda Jets on Saturday.
Exies were staring down the barrel of a meagre total when they were 8-117 before Justin Winkler (68) and Warren Bock (49) rescued the innings.
The duo took the score from a perilous state to 9-208 before the innings came to a close soon after.
Asked to face five overs near the close of play, the Jets lost Andrew Potter for a duck to be 1-3 at stumps.
The Jets dominated through their quicks early in the day, with Brett Hazelman (4-61) and Jesse Wade-Ryan (3-54) snaring the majority of the wickets.
But Jets captain Shaun Stubbs said it was frustrating his team couldn't finish off the reigning premiers.
"We dropped Winkler when he was on about 40 and Bocky didn't give a chance," he said.
"I thought we bowled well. The (Exies) boys just sort of put their heads down and dug in and made sure they got rid of the bad balls.
"They've probably got us on the back foot a bit now."
