THE Griffith Demons have qualified for the MIA League grand final after beating home side Narrandera 61-58 on Saturday night.
The victory was the Demons' third in a row but had to be earned after Narrandera fielded a far stronger team than the combination that lost the sides' last clash 85-50 a fortnight ago.
Demons coach Steve McCanna wasn't surprised Narrandera proved tougher to beat on its home court but praised his players' determination to grind out the win.
"They (Narrandera) had a few players that weren't there last time and we were a bit short," he said.
"We still had 10, but we had to fight hard.
"I was really happy with the way we grinded it out because it was a tough match."
The Demons led the game from the second quarter, but McCanna said some sloppy turnovers kept Narrandera in the contest.
"We'd get on a bit of a run and get away and then they'd come back," he said.
"In that fourth quarter we gave away a few bad turnovers and they got a few favourable calls, but we still got away with the win.
"In the end that's all that really matters."
Jonathan Evans and Todd Howard were the standouts for the Demons, the duo keeping calm and landing crucial buckets when the game was in the balance.
With one away match against Leeton to negotiate before the grand final, McCanna isn't sure whether he'll rest players or field a full-strength side.
"First I've got to see who's available," McCanna said.
"We'll see who's at training on Tuesday night and then make a call from there."
The Demons women's team was also in action against Narrandera on Saturday night but went down 35-25.
It was the Demons' first loss of the season, but coach Carolyn Snow wasn't disappointed considering the senior players she had missing.
"Tamara Minato and Sandra Graham were the only experienced players we had and they absolutely played the house down," Snow said.
Also impressing Snow was under 16 player Emilie Quinn.
"For someone who had never played at that level, I thought she really stepped up," Snow said.
