Shortly after 2am police responded to a report of a brawl at the Griffith Hotel in Kooyoo Street.
Two groups of males were separated by police and directed to leave the area.
One of the groups involved in the brawl returned to the area while police were still at the location and a number of fights broke out in Kooyoo Street and Banna Avenue.
Police used capsicum spray to subdue a number of people involved and six men were arrested.
A number of move on directions were given to onlookers by police.
A 23-year-old Griffith man will appear in court to face a charge of affray, while the other men were released but investigations continue.
Police will review CCTV footage and any further offenders identified will be arrested and prosecuted.
Acting Inspector Scott Wilkinson, of Griffith police, said alcohol was a major contributing factor in the brawl and the fights that followed.
"Griffith Local Area Command police will be in and around licensed premises targeting intoxication, anti social and violent behaviour over the coming summer months," Acting Inspector Wilkinson said.
"Police will be scrutinising responsible service of alcohol in licensed premises. Police are not stopping people from having a good time with friends, but take responsibility for your own actions."
Acting Inspector Wilkinson warned people not to use alcohol as an excuse to get into a fight or act in a way they would not if they were sober.
"Getting drunk and making a bad decision can change your life forever," Acting Inspector Wilkinson said.
