Beelbangera Public School’s garden club, made up of 62 students who volunteer their time to take part, have been working hard to grow a range of fruit and vegetables which will soon be available at Driver IGA.
Kay Catanzaritti has volunteered her time to foster the students’ green thumbs and incorporate their enthusiasm for garden into the school curriculum in a practical and fun way.
School principal Grant Beard said gardening guru Tino Carnevale, who was in the district for the Griffith Festival of Gardens, recently visited the school and showed students how to propagate a rosemary plant from cuttings.
“The school garden club is propogating a 100-year-old rosemary as a Centenary Rosemary Project, with the students propogating the cuttings from the plant for the school's Centenary Anzac service next year. The garden club will also take preorders from any interested persons wishing to use the Centenary Rosemary.”
Produce from the school garden will be available at Driver IGA and profits will go back to the school.
Driver IGA owner Paul Snaidero said he was delighted to be able to support the school’s initiative.
“Driver IGA is proud of its long associations with the local schools that support the store owned by a local,” he said.
