HANWOOD has its first points of the summer following a convincing five-wicket victory over Diggers at home on Saturday.
Hanwood's bowlers can take much of the credit for the result after dismissing the visitors for a meagre 82.
Opening paceman Dean Wynne finished with the majority of wickets after claiming 5-36 from 10 overs, while Tom Shannon picked up 3-14 from his four.
In reply, Hanwood reached the total without too many problems, a 53-run partnership between Michael McWhirter (18) and Dave Felton (31) proving decisive.
Hanwood captain Dean Catanzariti said it was a good feeling to get early points on the board.
"The boys did well," he said.
"We were really good in the field and only dropped the one catch this week, so it was a much better effort.
"It was a good performance just to get the confidence rolling."
Diggers captain Scott Smith would love to inject his players with a bit of self-belief after his side threw away a promising start to its innings.
After making it to 1-59, Diggers suffered a dreadful collapse to be all out 23 runs later.
Smith said Diggers were their own worst enemy.
"We needed a bit more commitment from the batters," he said.
"We kept throwing our wickets away.
"After that sort of start, you should be putting on close to 150.
"But that wasn't the case for us."
Despite Diggers' small total, Smith thought his side was still in with a chance.
"We have bowled teams out for less than that in the past," he said.
"We had them three down quite early, but then Dave Felton and their opener (McWhirter) put on a fairly handy partnership.
"Although they batted slowly, we just couldn't get that breakthrough wicket."
Compounding the loss was a serious injury suffered by Blake Raworth, who snapped his achilles while batting.
"He hit the ball and heard a crack and actually thought he'd hit the ball twice before he found out what had happened," Smith said.
