CORO captain Haydn Pascoe says the Cougars need a vastly improved batting display if they are to beat the Yenda Jets under lights at Exies No.1 Oval tomorrow.
The Cougars faltered badly at the crease in their opening 40-over game of the season against Exies last week, a late collapse seeing them dismissed for 94.
Given the Jets piled on 205 in their first hit-out, Pascoe said the Cougars' mission was clear.
"It's the same story for us, week in, week out," he said.
"Our bowlers can't defend under a hundred. You can't win games, especially premierships, if you can't score runs."
While pitch conditions were challenging last week, Pascoe, who is unavailable for tomorrow's game, said the Cougars were guilty of impatience.
"(Last week) it wasn't an easy track to bat on," he said.
"But once you got in and got set, there might've been the odd ball that popped up, but if you could defend that you were right.
"It was a good outfield to score runs on.
"Unfortunately, we lost about 7-30 at the end. That was pretty much it for us."
While Pascoe is looking for improvement, Jets captain Shaun Stubbs would love for his team to reproduce the form it showed against Diggers in round one.
Inspired by Tom Spry, who blasted 78 and snared 4-20, the Jets were arguably the most impressive of the competition's six clubs in the opening week of the summer.
Stubbs said another strong batting display would go a long way to securing a second win.
"It'll be handy to bat first and get some runs on the board, considering they (Coro) only got 90-odd the other week," he said.
"If we can get to 150-plus, I think that'll be defendable.
"Especially out there at Exies No.1. It (the outfield) is pretty quick, I hear."
Missing from the Jets line-up tomorrow will be paceman Jesse Wade Ryan, who tore through Diggers' top order to capture 5-23.
But softening the loss is the welcome return of Brett Hazelman.
"It's apples for apples with Jesse going away and Brett coming back," Stubbs said.
"We'll just be looking to take a few wickets early and knock over their top-order, so we can get into the blokes who hang around a bit."
