She had always dreamed of owning her own business and after completing her apprenticeship in hairdressing she set about making that dream a reality.
Darrelea’s opened in 1994. It was just a plain hairdressing salon, no frills, just top quality hair cuts, styles and colours. It remained that way for eight years.
Then Darrelea decided that there could be an opportunity for expansion.
“I thought there was an opening for a onestop shop for hair and beauty,” she said.
“Now we can do joint pedicures, manicures, facials and massage as well.
In July last year, Darrelea started looking for a point of difference, something to set her apart from the plethora of similar operators in Griffith.
As a local volunteer with Look Good, Feel Better, Darrelea had met many cancer patients who struggled to find suitable alternatives to the harsh chemicals often associated with the hair and beauty industry.
“Many cancer patients are told they can’t colour their hair anymore,” Darrelea said.
“I wanted a natural alternative and no one else was doing it.
“We are now totally eco-friendly but for acrylic/gel nails.”
The business name was changed to Gorgeous By Nature to go with the eco-friendly theme.
Everything from hair dye and spray tans through to make-up and waxing can be done naturally at Gorgeous By Nature, and with stunning results.
Drop in and ask Darrelea and the team about their eco-friendly products and treatments and wish them happy birthday while you’re at it.
After all the hard work she has put into her business, Darrelea is determined to keep it going for a lot longer.
