Ten programs, including Rake, The Time of Our Lives, Offspring, Foxtel's Wentworth, INXS: Never Tear Us Apart and Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story, are competing in the television series and miniseries categories.
In total there are seven categories for television programs but only two for feature films. There is also a single category for interactive productions.
The five nominated feature films are Felony, The Railway Man, The Rover, Tracks and Wolf Creek 2.
Other nominated television programs include Ja'mie: Private School Girl, Shaun Micallef's Mad as Hell and The Moodys, in the comedy category, and RocKwiz, The Agony of Modern Manners and The Marngrook Footy Show, in the light entertainment category.
And the might of six Melbourne housewives will take on four established commercial network reality franchises as Foxtel's The Real Housewives of Melbourne goes up against Big Brother, MasterChef Australia, The Voice Australia and The X Factor Australia.
Interestingly, all of the nominees in the reality category are local adaptations of formats which originate overseas.
The awards were founded to recognise the "creation of outstanding screen content; celebrate the skill, accomplishment, imagination and passion" of producers engaged in creating Australian stories.
Screen Producers Australia executive director Matthew Deaner said this year's awards had received a record number of submissions.
"[That] highlights the incredible contribution production businesses make to the industry and the importance of ... recognising excellence and acknowledging the collaboration of talent."
The winners will be announced at the Screen Producers Australia Awards on November 18, 2014, at the 29th annual Screen Forever Conference.
