MOST footballers would be ecstatic to win one premiership in a season, but Griffith's Leon Tiere has the opportunity to claim a rare double.
The barnstorming forward helped the Griffith Blacks win this season's Southern Inland Rugby Union premiership last month and will line up for Griffith Black and Whites in Sunday's Group 20 reserve grade grand final against West Wyalong.
After announcing his retirement from the Blacks after their title win, Tiere also plans to pull the pin on his rugby league career after Sunday, regardless of the result.
The 31-year-old said it was time to give his body a rest and focus on other things.
"I haven't got any kids or anything, so there's other things I want to do," he said.
"I don't want it to just be about footy.
"I also don't think my body can take any more.
"It's probably important now to focus on other things. But if I can get the double, it'll make my career even more special."
While he played both codes this season, Tiere gave more time to the Blacks in an effort to keep his position in first grade.
"For me to maintain my spot, I had to lift my game," Tiere said.
"We had a lot of depth at the club this year. The depth was awesome.
"But luckily I committed to training, stayed fit and that made it easy for me to hold my position.
"I was so happy we won."
Tiere would love to experience that feeling again with Black and Whites.
"There's just one more week to go now. Pretty much one more week of pain and that's it," Tiere said.
"But whatever the result, I'll be happy."
Tiere said faith had played a huge part in his football career.
"At the end of the day, my belief is that God has given me the strength to do this," he said.
"All these years I've had no major injuries. I've just got to give it all back to God because he's kept me strong."
