Eight RFS fire units with 20 personnel from Yanco, Whitton and Leeton battled the blaze, but RFS District Office MIA Inspector Mark Godley said "not much" was left of the home.
The owner, who only wanted to be known as Ron, was at a small businesses training course at the time.
"Neighbours rang me and said there was a fire," the man told The Area News, holding back tears.
"I've lost everything."
Ron said he lived at the house by himself with his three dogs who were in the yard when the fire erupted.
"They are OK, the dogs are OK," the home owner said.
Talking to The Area News shortly after the fire, Ron said he had not had a look inside his home, but through the broken windows he could see the devastation.
"It's all gone," he said.
"I was in the process of starting my own business. That's not going to happen now."
Ron said he was grateful the community, his neighbours, friends and family were already rallying around him to help.
A fire investigator is still trying to determine the cause of the blaze and police said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
