WAGGA trainer Wayne Carroll didn't waste his petrol money travelling to Dalton Park on Saturday after three of his gallopers won at the Griffith Jockey Club's 50th anniversary meeting.
Carroll was the most successful trainer on the the day thanks to the success of stablemates The Black Gandalf, At The Tapas and He's A Chance.
The Black Gandalf's win in the Strathearn Insurance Brokers-Employers Mutual BM 45 Handicap (1200m) was arguably the most satisfying for Carroll, who was worried about the five-year-old gelding's preparation.
"It was his second run back from a long lay-off," Carroll said.
"He's had some viral illnesses beforehand.
"To win second up after such a long spell is a nice effort from the horse.
"I think he'll derive a lot of benefit from the run."
Carroll was also delighted to see At The Tapas prevail in the BN Proud and Co-Michells Class 1 Handicap (1350m).
"His owners brought him from Melbourne to give to us and he's come a long way," Carroll said.
"When we first got him, on race day he would completely lose the plot.
"But now he's a lot more relaxed and is probably seeing the benefit of country life.
"It was a good victory for the owners."
He's A Chance was first past the post in the Hotel Victoria-Integra Benchmark 55 Handicap (1820m), winning by more than three lengths from Staretto.
Carroll said the five-year-old gelding had been building to such a performance.
"He's been thereabouts of late," Carroll said of He's A Chance.
"He's been running thirds, fourths and a few seconds.
"It was probably his time."
Carroll wasn't represented in the Griffith Cup after scratching Casual Zariz following a poor barrier draw and concerns over the hardness of the surface.
"He's had a few problems with his feet in the past, so I didn't want to take any chances," Carroll said.
In the day's other results, Another Tex broke through in the Hutcheon and Pearce Maiden Handicap (1200m), while Oh No Gecko won the Reece Plumbing Centres Benchmark 50 Handicap (1000m).
