Griffith Jockey Club president Judy Kroek said while official numbers were not in, it was believed numbers surpassed last year, when about 2000 people headed to Dalton Park for the annual event.
“We were really happy,” Mrs Kroek said.
“We think there were more people than last year – I’m predicting about 2500,” she said.
Mrs Kroek said she was delighted to see so many people having a great time.
She said she believed the weather and live entertainment from Big Unit drew a larger crowd than last year.
This year also marked the 50th anniversary of the Griffith Jockey Club.
Mrs Kroek said Griffith residents were extremely supportive of the event, which brings visitors to the city and gives businesses a much needed cash injection.
“It’s so nice to walk through the crowd and see how amazing everyone looks on the day,” she said.
Griffith City Council tourism and economic development manager Greg Lawrence said the races was a great way to attract people to the city.
“It not only injects money into the economy, it also brings people to the city,” Mr Lawrence said.
The Area News is running a competition to find the best dressed racegoer.
The winner will receive a $100 shopping voucher.
