Former Griffith resident Peter Paynter, 61, went missing in dense woodland in Eungella on Wednesday.
The man, who grew up in Griffith, and moved to Queensland in his mid 20s, early 30s, went for a walk at 9am on Wednesday morning and failed to return to his Queensland home.
His wife Sue raised the alarm at 11pm on Wednesday night.
A RACQ-CQ Rescue team searched the area around the couple's property yesterday, Wednesday, but were unable to locate the man.
Poor visibility and 'jungle like' bushland made the search difficult.
Police said a land and air search resumed at first light this morning, Friday, and includes SES, police, local residents and the 61-year-old man's work colleagues.
The search team will continue to search the man's 100-acre property and neighbouring properties today.
A family friend said Mr Paynter would regularly go for walks through the bushland and his disappearance was "completely out of character".
