Father Neru announced on the weekend he had been asked to move on to Narrandera.
Parishioners were visibly upset and a Facebook page called Keep Father Neru in Yoogali/Hanwood had more than 2200 likes yesterday.
Father Neru said on his Facebook page that he had agreed to the move.
"As I said tonight at mass this is my gift to my father (Bishop) on Father's Day to go with my whole heart. But if the Bishop changes his mind I will stay with my whole heart," he said.
A number of people expressed sadness at the decision on Facebook, with a number of people saying Father Neru was the reason they went to church.
"We all love Father Neru so very much, we would be lost without him," one Facebook user wrote.
"This is terrible news. Father Neru you need to stay and we will all fight to keep you here."
