After putting out the call to creative locals earlier this year to create artwork from recycled newspapers, entries have flooded in, including a teddy bear, a swing set, an aeroplane and a flower arrangement all made entirely of old newspapers.
The Area News manager Lyn Urquhart said she was excited about the large interest the fantastic competition had created among the newspaper's readers.
"The creations we have received are truly amazing," Mrs Urquhart said. "One person even went through the effort of knitting with wool made of paper.
"And the enthusiasm of children and schools was outstanding."
Judging for the 2014 competition will take place on September 19.
For the lucky winner a $1000 cash prize is up for grabs.
The online voting for the People's Choice Award is now open (please don't forget to click 'vote' at the bottom of the voting form):
All Words of Art entries will be on display at The Area News office on Banna Avenue for two weeks.
Mrs Urquhart said due to the overwhelming interest in the competition, The Area News team will be considering making Words of Art an annual event.
"Start collecting your copies of The Area News and get your creative juices flowing for next year," Mrs Urquhart said.
