Just before 11pm on Friday night police and fire crews were called to Barellan Street, where a Ford Falcon had gone up in flames.
Griffith Fire Station captain Kevin Roth said the tabletop tradies ute was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Mr Roth said four firefighters battled and extinguished the blaze, but couldn't safe the vehicle.
Police said only 20 minutes prior to the reports of the fire, police had already attended a call in the area.
Residents had seen an unknown person in a backyard, but no one was found when police arrived.
Police are urging anyone who might have seen what happened on Barellan Street on Friday night after 10pm to contact 131 444.
