Last year’s minor premier found its range and scored three goals on either side of the break in what was a blistering display of round-ball football and an ominous warning that the quality outfit has found its rhythm at the right time of the year.
The icing on the cake for a buoyant Hanwood was a solid match from Jason Bertacco, who returned for his first full 90 minutes since undergoing a knee reconstruction in August last year.
From all reports Bertacco played the match unencumbered and he didn’t pull up lame after the match.
Hanwood coach Anthony Agresta was thrilled with the result and the confident brand of soccer his men put on show.
“As I’ve said we’ve been poking along getting results for the past couple of weeks, but today we’ve finally put the hard work to good use and it’s all starting to pay off,” Agresta said.
“The past few weeks we’ve had players in and out between injuries, suspensions and guys going away, but we’ve got on with the job and we’re getting our continuity back.”
Hanwood’s Kyle Greaves bagged a double, while Matthew Fearon, Jordan Beltrame, Anthony Agresta and Daniel Agresta all contributed to a massive total.
“The boys started really well and in the first 25 minutes we missed a penalty that probably could have buried the game but in saying that we got the third on the stroke of half-time and by then we probably had the result,” Agresta said.
“I was most pleased that we went back to playing good soccer again.
“Last week was a scrappy game but this week we just got back into the groove again and the boys looked like they were starting to enjoy it again and play with confidence.
“We said if we could get through the past couple of weeks without too much damage, then we would start hitting our straps at the right time.”
