THE future of Goolgowi's iconic general store and post office looks bright after new owners took over this week.
Mike Brown and Serena Thompson have made the move to the small town with their two-year-old daughter Temperance.
Mr Brown, who was in the commercial printing trade in Sydney for 20 years, before being retrenched along with 22 others, is originally from Michigan.
He called the decision to swap city for country life "sensational".
"I bought it seven days after I got retrenched," he said.
"I feel like I've been here for 20 years. I felt good about this place from the start and it has just gotten better.
"I pinch myself every morning. I love it. The people are just magic and I'm happy we did it."
In January last year, former owner Kylie McKenzie made the heart-wrenching decision to shut up shop for good after struggling to sell it.
Her mother kept e shop open, but without the post office, which Carrathool Shire Council took over in the interim.
Mr Brown said he was looking forward to bringing the store which has been operating in Goolgowi for close to 90 years back to it's full potential.
"I've never done anything like this before, but my dad was in small business when I was growing up and Serena has always worked in retail," he said.
"We are working on getting prices to where we are both happy and I'll officially take over the Post Office on August 18.
"From that day we will run extended hours."
"This is a big change for us, but I'm happy we did it.
"From my understanding, it's been trading for more than 85 years, so we need to keep it going and we look forward to doing that for locals."
