Her rhyming picture book, Climb, was a finalist in the Children's Picture Book: Softcover Fiction section of the awards.
Ms Tuohey said she was delighted to be a finalist in the awards, which attracted 1200 entries from authors and publishers from across the world.
"I have a fantastic time sharing Climb with children throughout Australia," she said.
"The local Riverina communities, in particular, have been incredibly supportive of my writing endeavours. It will be great if Climb now reaches a wider, international readership."
The book, illustrated by Emma Stuart, celebrates adventurous play and childhood imagination.
It was published by Little Steps Publishing in Sydney as a partnership publishing project.
"Partner publishing is a business collaboration that offers authors and illustrators a greater opportunity to be involved in the nitty gritty decisions of firstly getting the book published and secondly how the book will physically look," Ms Tuohey said.
"I was able to choose my own illustrator, which was a huge benefit because I had a very clear vision of how I wanted the book to look and Emma's style fitted perfectly."
