THE future of Griffith’s trouble-plagued swimming pool is in the hands of the public, with two community engagement sessions and a survey for residents to help map out future development.

It follows the findings of an external audit into Griffith Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre (GRALC) last month.
Key recommendations in that report included building a new 25 metre outdoor swimming pool, upgrading or relocating the cafe, building a new barbecue outdoor dining space and outsourcing the management, according to auditors Denis Pontin and Neil Tredwell.
“The Aquatic and Leisure Centre is an important asset in our community and residents have a significant opportunity ahead of them to share their vision and ideas for the future of this facility,” chair of the cultural facilities management committee, councillor Mike Neville said.
Management of the centre has copped plenty of flack in recent years, but locals now have the chance to air their grievances.
The community sessions will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 6pm at the GRALC and on Thursday, June 5, at the Griffith City Library from 6pm.
Residents are encouraged to attend the sessions and to participate in the “Future of Griffith Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre” survey.
The survey is available online at the Griffith City Council Website www.griffith.nsw.gov.au.
Printed copies will be available at council’s administration building and the library.
The engagement sessions and survey offer community members multiple avenues to provide their vision and ideas for the future development and management.
The community input and feedback, in addition to recommendations in a report published by RPM and Associates and Tredwell Management Services, will be incorporated into a final report that will be presented to council no later than July 31.
Griffith City Council director of business, cultural and financial services Max Turner, said, the input received from the community will be considered in addition to the recommendations put forth by RPM & Associates and Tredwell Management Services.
“The comprehensive data from the community and the recommendations made by the consultants will be incorporated into a new report for council by the end of July,” Mr Turner said.
