Tickets go on sale today for Marian Catholic College's latest offering, The Wiz, which is a reprisal of the 1970s Broadway musical inspired by Frank L Baum's The Wizard of Oz.
This modern version sets Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel, and soul, making the show funky and fun.
The Wiz will be presented at the Griffith Regional Theatre from Wednesday, June 18 to Saturday, June 21, with five shows. Producer Belinda Aventi said students had been preparing for the production since the start of the school year and were feeling confident they could deliver a top show.
"Our last musical, Fame, was sold out almost every show so people need to get in quick to buy the best tickets," she said.
"If people thought Fame was good, wait until they see what we have in store for them with The Wiz.
"The music is amazing, the costumes will all be from Betty Boo and look fantastic and the kids are a dedicated group, who can't wait for the opportunity to step on stage and show what they can do."
About 100 of the school's talented students from years 7 to 12 are involved in the production, with a mix of seasoned and first time performers taking part.
Following a smaller role in Fame, Shalisa Ippoliti is excited to have been given the lead in The Wiz.
"I'm really excited about it and I can't wait," she said.
Directed by Don Hillam with the assistance of Sarah Keane, produced by Belinda Aventi with musical direction by Matthew Segrave, they are the team who brought you Fame.
Tickets can be booked from 10am today in person at theatre, online at www.griffithregionaltheatre.com.au or by phoning 6962 8444.
